VPN - Installation and configuration steps for Windows

Introduction

To set up and connect to the virtual private network (VPN) on a Windows device, you will need to:

  1. Download and install the VPN software
  2. Set up your VPN connection

Download the VPN software

  1. Download and install the correct version for your Windows operating system accepting all default prompts. 

For instructions on determining if your computer is running a 32-bit or a 64-bit version of Windows, see the Windows support article: How can I tell if my computer is running a 32-bit or a 64-bit version of Windows?

University-provided laptops may have the VPN software pre-installed. If your software is already installed, skip to the connection instructions in Set up your VPN connection.

If prompted install any additional components that are required. Once the install is completed you can launch Ivanti Secure Access Client from the system tray.

  1. From the Windows Software Center, search for 'ivanti' and run the Ivanti Secure Access VPN Client installer.

  1. After installing, click Restart.

Set up your VPN connection

  1. Open the ivanti Secure Access Client and click the plus sign, ''+",  to add a new connection.

  1. For the  connection Type, select "Policy Secure (UAC) or Connect Secure (VPN)."
  2. Enter the Name: UofM-VPN
  3. Enter the Server URL: vpn.cc.umanitoba.ca
  1. Click Add.

  1. In the Connections window, click Connect.
  2. Click Proceed.
  1. Enter your UManitoba email address
  2. Click Next.

10. Enter your password and click Sign In

11. A window will open with a number code. 

12. Check your authenticating device 

  1. Open the Microsoft authenticator app
  2. Enter the number code 
  3. Click Yes

Congrats! You now have secure access to UM systems.

Hello, I would like to connect to VPN to use e resourse . could you give me the pass for that , and also , what is the username for VPN is that umanitoba email address ?

Once you receive access, use your UMNetID and password to log in.

Hello! During the setup, it asks for umnet id. But every time I enter the credentials, it gives an error.

Hi there , I'm unable to login. i need this app to practice for my upcoming comp courses. As I tried to login , a message popped up saying contact the network administrator. Can I get help?
