How to map to your drives after logging on to the VPN - Windows 10

Introduction

After you establish a connection via the virtual private network (VPN) on your remote computer, you can map to your drives to access your UM resources on the on-premise network. Learn how to map your drives in Windows after logging on to the VPN client software.

Find "Map Network Drive"

  1. Open File Explorer.
  2. Select This PC from the left pane. Then, on the Computer tab, select Map network drive

To map your shared drive

  1. In the Map Network Drive window, select the drive letter S.
  2. Type \\ad.umanitoba.ca\<your faculty or department>\shared (i.e., nursing or education) in the folder field, then click Finish.
  3. Next, type ad\<your UMNetID>.
  4. Then type in your UM password.
  5. Select Remember my credentials.
  6. Click OK.

Your Shared drive is now mapped!

To map your H:\drive

  1. Select the drive letter H
  2. Type \\ad.umanitoba.ca\home\<your UMNetID> in the folder field, then press Finish.
  3. Next, type ad\<your UMNetID>.
  4. Then type in your UM password.
  5. Select Remember my credentials.
  6. Click OK.

Your Home drive is now mapped. You can now open/create/modify documents directly from your shared and home drive without having to download or upload content.
